As you may know, March celebrated Dr. Seuss's legacy with Literacy Awareness Month. Our PreK classes collected books to be distributed to children who do not have books at home. We are proud to report that they did an awesome job! We collected several boxes of books! All of these books will be distributed in our area to families in need.
March is Literacy Awareness Month, so it is fitting that today is the birthday of one of the most influential authors of all time - Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss is beloved by generations of readers, and we have the distinction of sharing his home state!
In honor of his work, his humor, and his dedication to children's literacy, the prekindergarten classes are holding a book drive. All of the books will be donated to a local program that provides books to students who do not have access at home. Book collection bins will be in the lobby all month.
We're asking each child to bring in one gently-used book. If every child in our school brings in just one book, we will have over TWO HUNDRED to send home to students in need.
At the end of the month, all of the students will read books together and complete Dr. Seuss-related projects to promote the importance of literacy.
