In 1923 a group of devoted Catholics led by Vittoria Novelli started a grass roots movement to generate the funds to build their own church. Later, in the early 1930's, as plans were being made to establish the church in Leominster, the women formed a society and chose St. Anna as a patron saint for their new organization. The organization and our church were named after the Shrine of St. Anne in Fiskdale, Massachusetts, where the women often made pilgrimages. After years of fund raising and generous support from the community, St Anna Church opened to hold its first Mass on March 7, 1937.
