![]() We've had an exciting week with our preschool and kindergarten friends joining us this week. I've also started making a good news call of the day home to parents to recognizing the amazing students we have at our school. It's always nice to get a GOOD phone call from the principal! We're continuing to talk about our listening, following directions and other skills that we need to learn to be good students. We continue to pray for those recovering from Hurricane Harvey and those that will be impacted by Hurricane Irma. We pray that all of our friends and family in Florida make it through the storm safely. We are changing up our Student of the Month. This year students in grades K-8 will be recognized for a Virtue each month. September is Respect. and a student from each class will be chosen that exhibits that virtue the most throughout the month. We will also recognize a Tiger of the month (the most improved student). Our monthly recognition wouldn't be complete without donuts! These students will get to enjoy donuts with Mrs. French the following day! HERSHEY's FOR HOUSTON Our 3rd grade 'Tiny Sheep' have put together our first fundraiser to support St. Christopher School in Houston. They will be selling little baggies of Hershey Kisses for $1.00 each on Thursday (and Friday if there are any left). You can purchase for yourself OR send to a friend. We will also have Skittle baggies as an option for our friends with allergies. ALL funds raised will be used to purchase gift cards that will be sent to St. Christopher's to be disseminated to their families in need. OUT OF DRESS DAYS The second Tuesday of the month (except April) is our PTO sponsored Out of Dress Day. This is a PTO Fundraiser. It is $3 each time or $5 per family OR $30/$50 for the school year. Students are allowed to wear appropriate out of uniform clothes that day if they pay the fee. We also have other out of dress days- like our Fairy Tale out of dress on Friday the 15th in honor of the BBQ- students can come to school dressed like their favorite Fairy tale character. There's no charge for this day. DISMISSAL/PICKUP/SAFETY School aged children can be walked to the door or drive down the loop and drop off at the door and along the walkway. Students may unload from cars as long as you are along the walkway. They do not need to wait to unload at the front door. This will help drop off go a little quicker. The doors will open at 8:30 and students need to be IN Class at 8:45 or they are marked tardy. If you use the drop off/pick up look- DO NOT park and get out of your car. We are happy to help load and buckle your child. We want to keep the line moving as quickly and safely as we can. Please remember that you CANNOT drive around the cars in the pickup/drop off line for the safety of our students. Please be patient. We will get you out as quickly as possible. It is also important to watch for the buses at the end of the day with the red lights and stop sign out. It is illegal to pass a school bus with their lights on/sign out while loading and unloading students. The safety of our students is our number one priority. VOLUNTEER SIGN UP SHEET - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YHsugZDSrQ-W DoCyah7ZOv9zaTvKaANrqToz0_LEijo/edit#gid=136941233 HOMEWORK CLUB New this year- students in grades 3-8 can go to homework club after school on Mondays-Thursdays from 3:15-4:30 on full school days. Students will go to the supervising teacher's classroom to work on their homework. The teacher will help them if needed. Students will have access to their chromebooks. Students can get picked up at 4:30 or go to extended care. Our intention is to give students a quiet space to do their homework after school. This will be beneficial to those that usually go to extended care and want to finish their homework before playing and for those that might need a little more support and structure to complete their homework. Students need to let their teacher know during attendance if they are staying after for homework club or let Mrs. Priddy know at lunch time. We need to make sure everyone has a ride home. SPIRIT WEAR It's that time of year. Order your St. Anna School spirit wear so you'll have it for these cool mornings. You can get sweatshirts, jackets, and fleece. Order Form due Sept. 15th. Students are welcome to wear their spirit wear in class, especially when temperature's get a little cooler. EXTENDED CARE EC is open and ready for business! Please be sure to fill out the NEW registration form if your child will attend EC this year. There are also a few FULL DAY options for our no school days due to professional development. Pre-registration is required. We also ask that you review our EC Guidelines- including no electronics. DESIGN SQUAD We are already in the planning phase for our fall event on November 11th. Design Squad is open to students in grades 3-8. It is from 12:00-4:00 and during that time they participate in a variety of challenges (building a circuit for a dance pad, something to kick a ping pong ball, a shelter, etc.) it also includes a chemistry experiment and we've even had an introduction to CAD. This program is successful because of our volunteers and several of our volunteers have moved on as their children have graduated. We'd like to keep this program running in the Fall and Spring and are looking for volunteers. We like to have one volunteer for each group of 4 students. They help guide the students as they brainstorm ways to solve the problem and create their inventions. If you are interested in volunteering or for more information- please contact Mrs. Laura Pompei. She also welcomes ideas for the planning of this year's event and choosing a theme. Ecybermission- Similar to Design Squad, we will be looking for volunteers to work with groups of middle school students (4) as they invent something to solve one of the world's problems (how to recycle golf balls, build a shelter, concussion preventing helmet etc.). Ecyber begins in the Fall and runs through February. Teams usually meet at least once per week for planning, researching, developing and reporting on their projects. If you're interested in being an Ecybermission Coach- please contact Mrs. French WORCESTER RAILERS OPENING NIGHT! Please join us for the opening night of the NEW ECHL Worcester Railers Ice hockey team and be part of history!!! We have group tickets through the Diocese of Worcester for $12 each. You can also get an optional group hat for $3 (at checkout). Tickets must be purchased by September 23rd. Please note which school you are from at checkout in the comment section- so we can all sit together! Purchase your tickets here! COOL KIDS CASH CLUB DON’T FORGET TO OPEN YOUR ACCOUNT THIS FALL..... Cool kids cash club- check out the introductory letter! This program will allow students to being banking at school. They will learn the importance of saving and will be able to make deposits into their savings account twice a month. This is an easy and terrific way to start saving NOW for middle school field trips! Each year the 6th graders attend Nature’s Classroom at a cost of around $600. The Washington DC trip is held every other year so your child would have the opportunity to attend DC as either a 7th or 8th grader. This trip costs around $1000. If you being saving NOW, as early as preschool or Kindergarten, your child could easily save enough money to cover both of these trips by the time they become a middle school student! Students will also learn skills about keeping a savings account pass book and other financial skills that are necessary to become financially responsible adults. Parents who are interested in having their child participate in this program, will need to open their child’s account at Fidelity and then on-going deposits can be made conveniently at school. Please feel free to stop in at either Fidelity branch in Leominster to open your account. Please let them know it is for St. Anna’s Cool Cash Club and/or email and let me know you’ve opened an account for your child so I can let you know when banking at school will begin. If you have questions about the program, please contact Ruby Vargas from Fidelity Bank at rvargas@fidelitybankonline.com or 978-353-2701 Athletics & ActivitiesPlease remember that for Cross Country and Cheering the concussion certificate needs to be turned in BEFORE students can practice.
