There's lots of excitement at St. Anna's today as everyone is getting ready for the Welcome Back BBQ! Students are all sporting their favorite sports teams, wearing their Little League, soccer and other sports uniforms. We even have a League of Their Own!
I love the enthusiasm of our staff and families who make St. Anna's a school that is also a family. This is my favorite event of the year. I enjoy getting to meet and talk with our new families as well as the ones I have come to know well in the past couple of years. I also get to take lost of pictures to share! I want to personally thank all of the people that make this annual tradition possible. I am always amazed by all of the parents, parishioners and others that step up to volunteer in various ways to make sure we have a night to remember. This year we were also blessed with volunteers for the United Way's Day of Caring volunteers- Thank You!
EARLY DISMISSAL FRIDAY
Please remember that next week we have an early dismissal on Friday, September 23rd for Teacher Professional Development. We will be working with Mr. Bill Atwood on the Collins Writing Program. Improving our writing program is one of our curriculum goals for this year. Extended Care will be open from 11:30-5:30. It is $35 per child and $15 per sibling. Please let us know if your child will be attending. You will need to provide a lunch and snacks.
VOLUNTEERS & CHAPERONES
We are always blessed to have parents and parishioners who volunteer at school or chaperone our field trips. We have the Preschool/Kindergarten Sholan Farm trip coming up soon... ALL volunteers and chaperones MUST have a completed CORI form (they are good for 2 years), you must complete the Safe Environment Course (we have an online option available) and you must also have your SAFIS- Fingerprinting completed as well.
This is for the safety of all our children. Please contact the office and we'd be happy to help you complete all of these components to get you on our volunteer/chaperone list!
St. Anna School is now providing report cards on a trimester (3 times a year) basis as opposed to the quarters (4 times per year) we have used in the past. Trimesters allow us to focus on quality rather than the quantity of student assessments. The extended time allows for proper pace of curriculum and opportunities to individualize the curriculum and provide interventions for students who need it. Students also have more time after progress reports to develop the skills they are struggling in prior to the report card.
For students in grades 4-8, grades will continue to be posted in Option C allowing you to see more up to date progress and grades at any time.
PreK students dismissed at 12:00 can be picked up at the Little Red School House. Please park across the street from the school (near the church) and walk down. The parking lot is closed during recess (10:30-1:00) and sometimes in the afternoon for PE. When dropping off preschool students, please do not park in the teacher’s lot. You will need to park near the church and walk your child to the preschool classrooms. School aged children can be walked to the door or drive down the loop and drop off at the door and along the walkway. They may unload from cars as long as you are along the walkway. They do not need to wait to unload at the front door. This will help drop off go a little quicker. The doors will open at 8:30 and students need to be IN Class at 8:45 or they are marked tardy.
Please remember that you CANNOT drive around the cars in the pickup/drop off line for the safety of our students. Please be patient. We will get you out as quickly as possible. It is also important to watch for the buses at the end of the day with the red lights and stop sign out. It is illegal to pass a school bus with their lights on/sign out while loading and unloading students.
The safety of our students is our number one priority.
Extended care is available before school from 7am-8:30pm and after school 3:15pm-5:30pm and registration forms can be turned into the office anytime. Registration is required and the form is available here and on the website along with more specifics on the program. The fee is the same as last year- $6 per hour and $3 for each additional sibling. There is an hour minimum and the time will be rounded to the nearest hour.
You will be billed monthly for Extended Care use via email. You can also ask to have your extended care bill added to your FACTS account.
If you unexpectedly need child-care, please contact the office and your child can be sent down to extended care and you will be charged the appropriate fee.
We are excited for our 2nd Annual Color Run. The 5K is open to EVERYONE! Students, families, friends, and the public. Please share all of the registration links and forms with everyone you know! The more the merrier. The 5K and fun run will take place on Saturday, October 1st at Saima Park in Fitchburg at 10:00.
We have a 'fun run' and obstacle course set up for the little ones too! This is sure to be another family fun event.
We can also use some volunteers to help the morning of the event. We can use help at the registration table, spraying our runners with color, helping at the finish line.
Please check out the volunteer sign up and add your name! (or email Mrs. French)
Register for the run before September 16th to get your FREE t-shirt
We can now accept on-line donations for the Color Run- Share with Friends and Family!

All students in kindergarten through grade 5 completed the Fall DIBELS Assessment.
DIBELS are measures that help teachers and schools determine how students are performing on important reading skills. DIBELS stands for Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills.
The critical skills necessary for successful beginning reading include: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Students who are identified as needing additional support in reading based on DIBELS results, classroom performance and teacher observation will be sent home a letter next week. These students will work with Mrs. Earley our Instructional Support Teacher who is also a certified reading specialist.
If your child is not identified as needing additional support and you would like to know the results for their DIBELS testing, please email your child's classroom teacher.
We will also be completing the Math Assessment later this Fall.
Please join us for Curriculum Night Tuesday, September 27th from 5:30-7:00. This is an opportunity for PARENTS to meet the classroom teachers and learn about what to expect for their child(ren) this year. You will learn about the curriculum as well as classroom expectations....
NEW this year... we will have 1st through 5th grade teachers available to parents from 5:30-6:15 (they will do their presentations twice (5:30-5:50 and 5:55-6:15).
Middle School teachers will meet with parents in the cafeteria from 6:15-7:00 This will give middle school parents the opportunity to hear from all teachers as well as for parents with multiple children to have the opportunity to meet with more of their children's teachers.
